Why I Love Franklin Park Conservatory With Kids

I considered having my wedding at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Palm House on some Friday afternoon in April. It would’ve been beautiful. However, my husband and I ended up eloping on April Fool’s Day. Instead of wedding pictures, I have many photos of our kids playing at the Franklin Park Conservatory. I still love visiting there and now I bring the kids.

I’m happy with that decision. The kids and I definitely need “Blooms and Butterflies” after seeing nothing but snow for a couple months. My husband is great, too. You can even tell him I said so.

This is the Truth about Our First Visit to the USA

“It feels like I’ve woken up from a 7 month long dream,” I said, as we cruised through the cold, quiet streets of my Ohio hometown, heading towards my sister’s house. “I thought I’d feel weird.”

Yesterday we’d been driving through our town in Mexico around the same time in the evening. That also felt normal. Somehow, that now felt so far away. Do we really live in Mexico? Is that really our life? On the brightly lit salt covered roads, it felt like it was a lifetime away, instead of a mere 10 hours.

Holy Jurassic, Batman! Seeing the Dinosaurs at COSI Columbus

It’s happening! I think with a delightful, giddy air. I finally get to see a T-Rex!*

Sort of.

*Tyrannosaurus Rex lived during the late Cretaceous period, not the Jurassic period. I really wanted to say “Holy Jurassic, Batman!”

You’ll Never Guess the Location of this Sparkling Temple

“You missed the exit,” I said, as we sailed on past it one cold December evening. “Ugh, the traffic is bad on the other side of the freeway. It’s going to take forever to get back to the hotel.” We were trying to quickly return to our holiday homebase where my sister, niece, and nephews were going to join us for some swimming.

My husband groaned about it and at the next exit, we decided to take the side roads. We meandered through a neighborhood and all of a sudden, I noticed a sparkling jewel in the darkness.

“What is that?” I asked.

The Scientific Adventure at COSI Kidspace

One of the things I wanted to do before leaving the Columbus, Ohio area was to visit COSI (Center of Science and Industry). I’d heard great things about the COSI Kidspace. Would you believe I got my act together about a month before we moved? I was SO proud of myself. Until the parking lot exit incident.

Other than the parking lot issue, I liked the museum. As always, the big question: Did the kids like it?

The Thrilling and Death Defying Adventures at Kings Island

In September 2016, we procured tickets to go to Kings Island. We’d visited the year before, couldn’t find the kid rides, and really spent most of our time there sitting in traffic or buying  (and eating) vastly overpriced food. Would this year be different? Are there many Kings Island rides for kids? Are the Planet Snoopy rides awesome?

Is Columbus Museum of Art for kids?

I took the kids to the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, Ohio, for the first time earlier this month (November, 2016). It was also my first visit there! Of course, I’ve been to museums before, but not with kids in tow. Given that it’s an art museum, I thought it would be stuffy and boring. So, is it fun for kids? Continue reading

Travel in Your Backyard: Carriage Hill Metro Park

Big thanks to Andrew for this awesome post about exploring in our own backyards.

Often when we think of travel we imagine ourselves far away from home. Usually hopping on a plane and going somewhere tropical but that doesn’t have to be the case. The truth is that adventure is always lurking in your back yard and often it’s affordable. Sure, it may not be as glamorous as a whirlwind European tour but sometimes you have to take what you can get. My backyard is Ohio so I hope to highlight some fun, affordable, and overlooked spots for you to visit. Continue reading

My First Time: A Night Out in Columbus

*Record scratch* Get your mind out of the gutter. This isn’t about that kind of first time. I was invited to my friend’s “ends with a 5” birthday party and she wanted to do a night out in Columbus. A real night out. No kids and no need to drive home at the end of the night. My first overnight away from both kids in 3 years. The only time I’ve been away overnight in 4 years was to birth my second child.

One month ago, this event sounded amazing. One week ago, my anxiety started in and I didn’t want to go.  Continue reading
