Best Anti Theft Backpack 2024

Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45 Anti-Theft Carry-On Travel Backpack

The Pacsafe Venturesafe backpack is unique to this list because it’s a backpack and a travel safe. The 45 liter can fit a 15″ laptop into the padded laptop sleeve, plus there’s a roomy main compartment and 2 interior pockets. It features steel mesh within the the water resistant material, which is made of nylon and polyester. The zippers are also puncture resistant. They can be padlocked, as well. It features padded shoulder straps (a must when traveling), a hip belt, and a sternum clip for additional ease of carrying. It comes with a stainless steel cable that can be used to lock the bag to secure objects. Please note that padlocks are NOT included. This is my top choice!

Best for: Large size (45 liter)

Pacsafe Venturesafe 15L GII

This small daypack is lightweight, considering the safety technology it contains. It has eXomesh Slashguard stainless steel wire mesh along the bottoms and about halfway up the sides to help protect from the old “slash and run” style of theft. It has locking zippers that are enough to deter pickpockets who may be looking for an easy mark. The Venturesafe has a nicely padded back and straps (which are adjustable), along with a sternum clip. Also, it has an RFID protected passport pocket.

Best for: Small daypack size (15 liter)

Pacsafe Metrosafe LS450

This back pack comes with the usual security features you’d expect from a pacsafe bag. It contains eXomesh Slashguard stainless steel wire mesh embedded into the fabric, to help prevent slash and run thefts. Additionally, flexible stainless steel wire runs through the straps for more slash proof security. It has an RFIDsafe blocking pocket. The zippers are protected with the Lockabout Security Clip and Smart Zipper Security. It also has a padded 15 inch laptop compatible sleeve. The side of the laptop isn’t at the bottom of the bag, giving it some extra protection. The cons: this backpack doesn’t have a sternum clip or a waist belt. I find that I much prefer a bag that has both of those features, especially a sternum clip.

Best for: Medium size (25 liters)

Travelon Anti Theft Urban Backpack

The urban is a much larger backpack offered by Travelon. It features a roomy main compartment and a fleece lined compartment for a laptop (up to 15 inches). The front zippered compartment is where you’ll find the slots for your cards and passport that have RFID blocking technology. Other cool features of this pocket are a tethered key clip and LED light (the light is an awesome little extra feature). It does have slash resistant panels and straps. It also has a fair amount of padding, making this backpack a nice, medium sized bag. It measures 13 x 6.2 x 18 inches (approximately 23 liters unofficially).

Best for: Well padded, Medium size

The Game Theory Backpack

This backpack, by The Game Theory, is quite a bit different as far as anti theft backpacks go. First, the design is unique. It has no exterior facing pockets. The zipper is hidden. In fact, it cannot be accessed while being worn. The hard-shell exterior is slash proof. It does have a pocket with RFID protection and also secret pockets on the arm strap (which are really cool). It has an external USB hub for connecting your phone to a battery pack (the battery pack does NOT come with the bag). Though the description says a 17 inch laptop can fit in it, it doesn’t. A smaller laptop (14″) will fit, though.

The exterior is water resistant (which is different than waterproof). It may be a little difficult to be quick to remove electronics, but it seems to be a sturdy and well protected bag. The manufacturer states that it is TSA approved when lying flat. Meaning, if it is open and lying flat, it eliminates the need for devices to be removed at security check-ins (your mileage may vary, as rules change regularly). 16 liters.

Best for: Budget, small size (16 liters)

Is a theft proof backpack necessary?

Traveling with security products like theft proof backpacks, anti theft purses, and portable travel safes can give one a lot of peace of mind. While it isn’t fool proof and you’ll still need to check the scams going on in the areas where you’ll be traveling, a little bit of prevention can make a LOT of difference. Just by having something that isn’t easy to grab-and-go for a would-be pickpocket is enough for them to move on to an easier victim.

If you’re a mom who travels with your kids, you know you’re often distracted just trying to keep them safe. That little bit of extra time it would take a thief to try to get into your belongings is likely to be enough of a deterrent – so you can keep your kids safe and worry less about keeping your important documents safe.

An ounce of prevention…

Give yourself some peace of mind as you head out into the world with a pickpocket proof backpack. Don’t lose your important documents, credit cards, and expensive electronics. Sometimes, just the added time it would take a pickpocket is enough of a deterrent for them to choose someone else to be their victim. Whether you are looking for a large secure backpack or a small travel backpack, you can find it. Go forth and travel!
