Are you considering staying overnight near Mexico City airport, in order to board your flight the following morning? If you aren’t staying in Mexico City for long or you’d like to be closer when you have a flight the next day, the Hotel Camino Real is a great option for families.

We recently took the bus from Queretaro to the Airport (Terminal 1) and stayed for one night in the Camino Real Hotel Mexico City Airport. Our family had arrived late enough in the day that going out and exploring Mexico City wasn’t on our radar. We wanted to eat and have a swim.

As always, this review was paid for by me. It’s not sponsored in any way by the hotel.

Staying overnight in Mexico City airport

We decided to take a trip to Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico. However, the best flights were out of Mexico City, which meant we needed a plan! Driving in Mexico City isn’t for the weak hearted, for sure. Also, you do need special plates if you’re planning to go by car. We decided to take the bus from Queretaro because it was the least expensive option and still really easy. The bus drops you right at Terminal 1. We decided that our best option would be staying overnight as close to the Mexico City airport as possible. Mexico City is huge, so staying near the airport was a necessity.

First, I had to check out hotels near Mexico City airport terminal 1. Once I realized there were a few hotels connected to the airport, I needed to check prices and amenities. It also needed to have a pool, of course!

Staying Overnight at the Mexico City Airport? Hotel Camino Real Aeropuerto Review

Camino Real hotel, Mexico City airport

Check availability at the Hotel Camino Real Aerpuerto

Que the Camino Real hotel, an older and interesting hotel across from Terminal 1 of the Mexico City airport. One of the key benefits of this hotel is that there is a walkway from the lobby directly into the airport. It was, by far, the easiest airport commute I’ve had!

The Camino Real is interesting because it looks like it was two hotels cobbled together in the middle. Since there is a second lobby off of the spacious main lobby and an uneven floor plan, I do suspect that is the case. While the rooms at the Camino Real are basic rooms, the hotel’s location, amenities, and price do make up for it.

An airport hotel, Mexico City terminal 1, with a pool

A hotel with a pool is a must for nearly every traveling family. Especially if you’re not going to be able to do a lot of activities… and just spent 4 hours resting on a bus. The kids are full energy and the adults are not. It’s time to go to the pool!

We were warned that the pool wasn’t that easy to find. It was less difficult than I expected, with that in mind. We went to the top floor, using the main lobby elevators. From there, walk directly out and don’t turn down either hallway. There will be an open door to a set of stairs. Take the stairs up. Make sure the kids are by the wall, because the railings are lacking when you have small children with you.

Once you reach the top, you’ll see the spa. You walk in and sign in. Towels will be provided. Then, you follow the long, winding hallway to the pool. Sidenote: if you walk the other direction from the front desk, you will find the bathrooms. The hallway takes you past several work out rooms, a hair salon (though I couldn’t tell if it was ever used), and other spaces. There are several types of work out equipment and the rooms look out over the Mexico City airport runway.

The indoor pool at the Camino Real Hotel is quite special. It’s not beautiful or romantic, but the view provided additional entertainment for us and the kids. We watched several planes land and depart. It was quite a surprise that the whole family loved.

Food Options

There are a few restaurants in the lobby of the Camino Real. We ate at the Mexican restaurant at dinner. The service was a bit slow and the food was good. The prices were what I would expect from a hotel restaurant in Mexico City.

We had breakfast at the buffet the following morning. While the food was okay, there was basically no service. At buffets, I don’t need or expect much service, but we really wanted more coffee. There were waiters floating around, but we had to flag down someone carrying a coffee pot in order to have a refill. Again, it was more expensive than I was expecting, but it’s Mexico City. If possible, I’d choose a different breakfast restaurant or be prepared to be more proactive in getting drinks.

Also, you cannot charge to your room at these restaurants.

It’s next to the airport, is it loud?

Surprisingly, no! Our water pipes rattled a bit while being used. However, the room was quiet! We were not overlooking the airport runway and I don’t know if that would change anything.

Pros

The Hotel Camino Real has an extensive work out facility, spa, and top floor pool that overlooks the Mexico City airport runway. There is also wifi included. The hotel has a nice bar, as well as several restaurant options off of the lobby. There is a convenient walkway from the lobby to terminal 1, making your airport commute very easy.

Cons

Our arrival time was perfect and check-in was a breeze. However, about an hour after we arrived, we noticed a very long line of travelers snaking around the lobby. If there are flights canceled, the hotel is a popular option given its proximity to the airport. I couldn’t tell if there was an elevator up to the pool level for those unable to navigate stairs.

Would I stay there again?

Yes! It’s an easy and convenient option for flying out of Mexico City. We’ve stayed there each time we’ve flown out of Mexico City airport, due to the convenience and pricing.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for Mexico City airport hotels terminal 1, the Camino Real is a solid option. It is convenient for both solo and family travelers looking to stay next to the airport in Mexico City.
