Mexican candy is so different than regular American candy – and it’s delicious! Even when you can’t travel to Mexico, you can still find some of the culinary delights in the USA. I never knew how good the mix of sweet and spicy was until I moved to Mexico and started tasting all the different candies and culinary delights. Here are some of the best Mexican candy options that you can order online!

The Best Mexican Candy You Can Buy Online

Sometimes, travel isn’t possible. However, you can still eat your way around the world, one spicy strawberry candy ball at a time! There are many different types of Mexican candy to try and the following are my favorites. I’ve also included my kids’ opinions, as well!

Best Mexican Candy (that you can buy online) and eat around Mexico are the words on this pin. Underneath is a mango shaped red lollipop with flecks of dark red within.

Mexican Candy Tamarindo

There are so many variations on this theme and I love trying all of them.

A woman wearing glasses, holds a piece of brown soft candy dusted with white powder. It's pulparindo and it's one of the best Mexican candy options!

I love pulparindo!

Pulparindo

Pulparindo is readily available in any grocery and convenience story in Mexico. When you visit, you should definitely try it! Pulparindo is a candy made of tamarind. It’s mixed with chili and sugar. The regular pulparindo isn’t very spicy at all and I love the taste. There are other flavors available, too. I personally love the mango flavored pulparindo just as much as the regular flavor. This is actually one of my favorite Mexican candies!

You can order this online to try for yourself!

Zumba Goma Mango

This is another family favorite – and one we’ve discovered only recently. The candy is shaped into a ball, around the size of a large gumball. The outside is tamarindo with the chili mixed in. It isn’t particularly spicy at all. In fact, it’s mostly sweet. The inside is a mango flavored gummy. It’s a heavenly flavor combination and the textures are appealing also, if you enjoy that kind of thing.

It’s definitely worth trying!

Pelon Pelo Rico

I think I tried Pelon for the first time after Trick or Treating for Day of the Dead/Halloween. Pelon is soft, delicious, and only a bit spicy. My kids definitely love this one, too. You eat this one like a Push Up Pop (remember those, from the 1980s?), except they are room temperature. You push up the bottom of the container and it comes out looking a little like spaghetti noodles or the playdough from a playdough factory toy from the top. Unlike playdough, Pelon Pelo Rico is delicious.

Banderilla

Banderillas are tamarind, salt, and chili, pressed onto a plastic straw (don’t eat the straw!) These are incredibly good. I had them for the first time at a child’s party and I may have eaten 3 or 4. Shhh! Don’t tell. Banderillas are yummy, soft, spciy, and a little bit salty.

Taste them for yourself!

Mexican Mango Candy

A slice of dried mango, covered in chili. Yum!

Vero Mango

Vero Mango are mango flavored lollipops that are dipped in chili powder. Even though they sound spicy, the combination of sweet and spicy can become quite the craving. I don’t like spicy foods usually, but I find spicy candy doesn’t burn off your taste buds. I think I tasted my first one after one of my kids tried it and didn’t care for it.

Oddly enough, both kids like these now.

Chili Mango Slices

Chili covered dried mango slices are so seriously good, you won’t know how you’ve ever lived without them. Well, I also love mangoes, which I’m sure makes a difference. This type of candy is soft, because it’s dried fruit that then has a sweet and spicy coating. Our whole family digs these. We have a difficult time stopping once we’ve started eating them!

This is one of those that it is easy to fool yourself that it’s good for you. Even if they aren’t, they are a popular treat in our house.

Mexican Watermelon Candy

Skwinkles

Skwinkles remind me of those skinny twizzlers type of candy. Except Skwinkles are covered in chili. My kids actually love these. Please note that they contain wheat (contiene trigo), so I haven’t been able to taste them. Given the voracious way I’ve seen kids tuck into these, I am positive they are delicious and that I’m missing out.

They are available in some other flavors, too, including chamoy.

Mexican Strawberry Candy

Pinatas handing from the ceiling of a shop. They include Chase from Paw Patrol, a sphere that's white on the bottom, orange on top, and a black stripe around the middle, a bull, a dinosaur, a pokemon character, and more.

Pica Fresa

If you’re looking for Mexican candy strawberry balls, then Pica Fresa might be what you’re looking to find. These are a gummy strawberry gummy candy with chili in it. It’s one of those that I always look for after the kids have gone trick or treating because I love them! Yes, I also buy them for  myself from time to time because they are just that good.

Who knew spicy strawberry would be such an amazing combination? I think we all the answer to that question.

Mexican Clown Candy and Other Kid Favorites

Paleta Payaso

Hands down, these crazy clown lollipops are a really popular candy for kids in Mexico. My kids LOVE them and never turn them down when offered.  They are large, lollipop shaped chocolate covered marshmallows, with gummy candy faces. These aren’t my favorite, just because that combination isn’t my favorite. However, kids love them. Plus, they are huge (this link is to the mini version).

They are a fun and whimsical addition to piñatas and birthday party favors. Actually, I did once give these out as birthday party favors! These are definitely a kid approved candy and they are not spicy.

Caramelos Suaves Acidulados Con Chile

These are soft candies that are fruit flavored with a bit of spiciness. Flavors include cherry, orange, lime, grape, and others. Really, there’s a huge variety. Again, I tried these for the first time after the kids attended a birthday party and I couldn’t get enough. They are best when fresh because they have a soft texture, similar to a fresh starburst. However, these do have spice added. Oh my, oh my, they are yummy!

These are another favorite and a great way to start the experience of getting used to spicy candy for those of us who’ve never tried it before.

Duvalin Candy

Duvalin is very similar to frosting. Both of my kids love it. It usually comes in 2 or 3 flavors in one individual pack – chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Sometimes, it’s just two flavors. They are smooth, delicious, and super sugary, just like cake frosting.

This is one that I usually end up taking from their candy bags when I’m craving something sweet but without any spice – like a chocolate craving. It’s really tasty, though the kids usually end up not eating all that they get after they’ve also eaten cake! I’m okay with that. That just means there’s more for me!

Bubu Lubu

Bubu Lubu candies are very similar to the clown lollipops above. They have a layer of marshmallow and a layer of strawberry spread that’s similar to a jelly. Both layers are covered in chocolate. I actually do like this. However, another expat gave me the idea to freeze them slightly before eating and for me, that’s when these shine. I like the texture better when it’s colder. Do be careful if you freeze it for a long period of time.

My kids enjoy these at regular temperature. Though, I like they like the paleta payasos a bit more.

Is All Mexican Candy Spicy?

No, it isn’t! There is a huge variety of tastes and textures.

Try Some Candy from Mexico

Even if you can’t travel at the moment, expand your taste buds with one or more of the candies above. Worst case scenario, you won’t care for it. Best case scenario, you’ll discover something you love. Then, next time you come to Mexico, you can enjoy the new flavors you discover!
