The 5 Best Baby Carriers for Plus Size Moms and Dads
There aren’t any specially made for plus size baby carrier options. However, more and more companies are realizing that parents and caregivers come in all shapes and sizes. They are making highly adjustable carriers. This is great news – the more adjustable it is, the more likely it is to find the “sweet spot” of comfort for you and your little one. Baby wearing is great for the baby and the caregiver. Let’s dig into finding the best baby carriers for plus size people!
Gemini Performance Baby Carrier By Beco
An early version of the Beco baby carrier was one of my first carriers. The ease of use won me over. The Gemini is the carrier I’d choose now for a newborn, because you don’t have to purchase a separate infant insert. It also is just as easy to use. The straps can be worn straight (as you’d wear a backpack) or crossed in the back. Additionally, this carrier can be used with babies from 7- 35 lbs (3.5 kg – 16 kg), making it fairly long lasting. The shoulder straps are well padded, too. The waist band extends to 52″, plus waist and chest extenders are also available. I love this carrier!
Best for: Easy to use, comfort
Baby Tula Free-to-Grow Baby Carrier
Tula makes some pretty popular baby carriers. The Free-to-Grow can be used from 7 lbs – 45 lbs (3.18 kg – 20.41 kg), giving a lot of longevity. You can carry in two positions: facing in on the front and facing in on the back. It offers a lot of adjustments to fit different sized bodies, too. The Tula Free-to-Grow Carrier’s waist band can extend to approximately 57 inches. This particular carrier wasn’t my favorite to use, since I loved my other options more. Why did I include it? It’s popular for reason, meaning that it functions very well and comfortably for many people.
Best for: Large waist band, multiple adjustment options, longevity
LÍLLÉbaby COMPLETE Airflow
The LÍLLÉbaby Complete Airflow is great and versatile carrier. It can be worn in six positions, including front, forward facing, hip, and back. This carrier also doesn’t need a separate infant insert. It has mesh, nicely padded straps, and removable lumbar support. This carrier is good for babies from 7 lbs – 45 lbs. The waist belt on the Airflow is 52″ (usually fits up to 22/24 pants size) and there is an extender available that will give 9 additional inches. Additionally, the torso of the carrier is made of mesh, making it a cooler option for hot weather.
Best for: Lumbar support, 6 positions, hot weather, longevity
Ergobaby Carrier, Original
The Ergobaby Original carrier allows for three carrying positions: front inward, hip, and back. While you can wear it with babies from 7 – 45 lbs (newborn to 48 months), you will need to purchase an infant insert to wear it with babies who are 7 – 12 lbs (newborn to 4 months). It has the big front pocket to carry all the baby essentials and wonderful padded shoulder straps. It can be adjusted to fit most women who are sizes 0 – 24 and men who wear sizes 30/32 to 50/52. It has a 55″ waist belt, but no extender is available.
Best for: Comfortable, longevity
Boba 4G Carrier
The Boba 4G carrier is another great carrier with two carrying positions and an integrated infant insert. It can be used for front carries from 7-25 lbs and for back carries from 25-45 lbs. It also has a removable hood and foot straps included. This carrier has the largest waist belt size of all the carriers mentioned here at 58″, plus a waist belt extender is available. It’s also a comfortable baby carrier.
Best for: Largest waist belt
What’s the best baby carrier for big dads? What is the best baby carrier for plus size moms?
Both mom and dad (and other caregivers) will need to try the carrier to see what works best for them as individuals. Even if there is a size discrepancy between parents or other caregivers, they can usually share a carrier! My favorite on this list is the Beco Gemini. It’s easy to use and it doesn’t require an infant insert. This one is a great baby carrier for plus size dad and/or mom!
Conclusion: Wear All the Babies!
Even if you are plus size parents, you can wear your baby. Baby wearing is for all bodies and all babies who enjoy it. It really can help moms and dads feel normal and confident and it helps babies by being close to their caregiver. Babies are also going through a huge adjustment. Mom or dad can cook a meal while wearing or take a walk. Or chase after older children while the baby takes a snooze. Baby wearing improved my life when my children were babies and I hope you love it, too!
Go forth, travel, and wear the baby!

Dads are getting more involved in child-rearing. Even though most fathers still aren’t changing diapers, there is one thing they can do to increase bonding time with their babies: wear them! Carriers for men are becoming increasingly popular with modern parents. I’ve found the best baby carrier for dads by researching and testing several different brands of carriers.
