We have discovered the joys of traveling to all inclusive kid friendly resorts in Mexico. We’ve had some great experiences and some less than great experiences. It has me wondering: what are the best all inclusive resorts in Mexico for families? While I have been on several all inclusive Mexico family vacations, I haven’t even scratched the surface of amazing resorts in México that are also great for families. So, I asked several experienced family travelers, “what are the best family friendly all inclusive resorts in Mexico?”
Let’s get into their recommendations and then plan a vacation!
What are the best all inclusive family resorts Mexico 2024?
Luckily, it’s easy to find kid friendly all inclusive resorts in Mexico. Riviera Maya, which is easily accessible from the Cancun airport, is especially family friendly. Of course, there are wonderful options throughout the country, which is vast, varied, and absolutely worth exploring.

Riviera Maya All Inclusive Family Resorts
If you’re looking for Riviera Maya kid friendly all inclusive resorts, try one of these lovely resorts, as reviewed by parents who have stayed there!
Playa del Carmen Resorts
Grand Velas Riviera Maya
Sarah from Moment Mom
When you book an all-inclusive resort, you are really booking relaxation! You want the room, food, and fun to be taken care of so you can unwind and enjoy your vacation with your kids. Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Playa Del Carmen delivers on all three counts. One thing that makes this resort perfect for families is the personal concierge you meet upon check-in. Whether you give them a call or visit their desk, your family’s concierge schedules extra excursions, makes dinner reservations, and anything else you need! One of our favorite memories from our trip was snorkeling along the coral reef in the Gulf of Mexico. We didn’t book the event before we arrived, but a quick call to the concierge and all we had to do was show up on the beach and literally walk out into the water to board the boat!
Grand Velas location also sets you up perfectly to check off your first wonder of the world with a trip to Chichen Itza, another excursion the resort easily books for you.
Another stress that Grand Velas makes disappear is dinner time! The dining options have something for everyone, from amazing buffets to delicious table-service restaurants. One of the best family dining experiences is the unlimited room service. We fell in love with breakfast in our room each morning with our kids. You can order by filling out your menu the night before and leave it on your door. You wake up to an amazing meal set up on the balcony and the whole family can start their day watching the waves roll in. If you are looking for a resort that takes the stressors away, making time for your family to unwind and just enjoy each other, Grand Velas Riviera Maya takes the cake!

The Royal Haciendas
We loved the Royal Haciendas in Playa del Carmen. We decided to go there at the last minute due to a great price. It turned out to be the best vacation we’ve had as a family.
The beach was perfect for young children, as it had a rocky outcropping that kept the ocean waves fairly smooth. It was also shallow enough to allow for a lot of freedom even for my newer swimmers (ages 5 and 6). The pools were huge and uncrowded (though, we also did go during a low season). The best part about the beach was that there was food and drink service! Not only that, the food at the Royal Haciendas was good. Each morning, there was a juice bar in the main restaurant, La Palapa.
Royal Haciendas also has a wonderful Kids Club! They have daily activities from 9 am to 5 pm and an evening activity with dinner from 6 pm – 8 pm*. Our kids basically ditched us and never wanted to leave the kids club. For a week of relaxing, Royal Haciendas is the place to do it! I highly recommend this resorts to families who want a quiet and relaxing resort.
*Currently, the Kids Club hours are 9 am – 6 pm.
In fact, this is one resort I’m trying to get back to as soon as possible! We had booked a trip early in 2020 that got canceled, so hopefully we can get there in 2021.

Barcelo Maya Caribe and Beach Resort
Julie from More than Main Street
About an hour south of Cancun, The Barceló Maya Caribe and Beach Resort is an incredible all-inclusive family beach destination in Riviera Maya, Mexico! The resort was clean, the staff were all super friendly, and overall it was a very affordable vacation compared to other all-inclusive resorts where we have stayed.
Crystal clear shallow waters and soft white sand beaches are guaranteed to impress…but there is so much more to the Barcelo! Families can enjoy the pools, kayaking, snorkeling, basketball courts, miniature golf, a kid’s club, water park, and other daily activities. The Barcelo really does include almost everything, but there are a few options with an additional fee, including the Pirate’s Island water park, surf ride, and the kid’s spa. With so many activities available, you never even have to leave the resort! But, if you choose to venture out, you can explore nearby ruins, cenotes, and the adorable town of Tulum. We absolutely loved the Barcelo Maya Caribe and would return with our family in a heartbeat!

Playa Mujeres
Finest Resort
Kate from Tear Free Travel
For us, the hands-down best resort in Mexico for families is the Finest Resort in Playa Mujeres, Mexico. We have been to Finest three times and have enjoyed it more and more each time! Finest really delivers when it comes to family-friendly amenities.
Firstly, their family suites are perfect as they have a separate bedroom area just for the kids. This is great to give the kids some space and let the adults have alone time too! We stayed in both a ground floor family suite with a pool and a regular family suite. Both were awesome but I recommend the ground floor if you get a chance! We loved the large whirlpool tub and the beautiful modern style of the rooms.
The Finest Kids Club has lots of great activities for kids including horseback riding, crafting, and awesome shows and entertainment. In the kids club, there is an awesome water park that our kids absolutely LOVED! The food at Finest is amazing, it is definitely the best food I have encountered at an All Inclusive resort. Finest also has a beautiful beach and if you stay in the ‘Finest Club’ exclusive rooms you will have access to a private beach area with comfortable chairs and even pool toys for the kids!

Best All Inclusive Resorts in Cancun for Families
Club Med Cancun
A summary of guest post contributor Simone’s great experience with Club Med (read her full review of visiting Club Med with a toddler here)
Club Med in Cancun is situated only about 15 minutes from Cancun Airport. One of the great things about all-inclusive resorts is that they do everything for you; they book your flights (you choose which ones and they are included in the total cost of the trip), they pick you up at the airport and drive you to the resort, etc. All you have to do is to pack and get to the airport. They even arranged the transportation to and from the airport.
Before her trip, Simone had many questions, such as: Will I need to bring beach towels, beach toys, and what about a stroller? No on the beach towels, they were provided. Yes on the beach toys. Finally, no on the stroller as Club Med provides you with one during your stay.
Since she was also traveling with her toddler, she wondered: What will she be eating? Where will she sleep? Will there be anything for her to do? Club Med has plenty of food options and even specially prepared baby food for really little ones. There is a pack ’n play in the room (which is one of the things included if your child is less than two years old). There is also plenty of beach to play on, plus on demand childcare if requested. Simone took advantage of the on-demand babysitting service one afternoon (the only thing not included) since her daughter was still too young for the included Petit Club for 2-3 year olds.

Cabo Family Resorts All Inclusive
Hyatt Ziva, Los Cabos
Maggie from Milana’s Travels
The Hyatt Ziva in Los Cabos is the perfect all-inclusive resort for families. Their main pool area is massive, with cabanas you can rent that are in the water, with a shallow area for little ones to play in. There is also a separate kids pool, with shallow water and several slides. The kids club (which is for kids 2-12) has activities all day long, everything from arts and crafts to cooking classes. There is also a teen game room, where your older kids can meet some new friends and spend some time away from the family.
Since this is an all-inclusive resort, kids can try all different types of food without parents reaching into their wallet for every meal! The breakfast buffet at La Plaza even has a kids buffet, with everything at kid level that they can reach themselves. In the evenings, there is family-friendly live music, magic shows and a nightly kids show in the theater that that kids get to participated in if they’d like. If you’re looking for a great family-friendly all-inclusive resort in Los Cabos, look no further than the Hyatt!

Puerta Vallarta All Inclusive Family Resorts
Barcelo Puerto Vallarta
Andrea from One Savvy Wanderer
We just got back from a family vacation to Mexico in April 2019. We have three children, ranging from 5-12, and have taken the two older children to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico before and had a great time. Since our youngest is now old enough to utilize the kids clubs that some all-inclusive resorts offer, we decided that we’d return to Mexico for this trip. We chose Puerto Vallarta as our destination because we got the best airfare pricing using a combination of airfare hacks and discount codes.
As a budget-savvy traveler, I was looking for an affordable all-inclusive beach-front resort that would accommodate our family of 5. Barcelo Puerto Vallarta met all of my criteria and then some! Our 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom family room was the perfect size for us. The master bedroom had a balcony with a beautiful ocean-view and the 2nd bedroom had 3 single beds for each of our children. We paid a small fee to upgrade to a premium room, which included free wifi, unlimited reservations at the a la carte restaurants and access to the premium lounge with snacks and a self-serve bar with top shelf liquor. The additional fee was well worth the upgraded perks we were able to access during our trip!
There is a lot to do at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta to keep families entertained, including tennis courts, a small park and several pools including one with a slide! The kids club is geared towards younger kids with a variety of activities throughout the day like face painting, keychain making and arts and crafts. Our 5 year old daughter loved going to the kids club to participate in the different activities and her older brothers even joined in on some of the activities too!
We also really enjoyed hanging out on the beach when we needed a change of scenery and even went on a boat tour to Los Arcos to go snorkeling, which our kids loved! There is also a great place to get a massage on the beach for only $25 USD, which is a great way to get much needed rest & relaxation while on a family vacation.
Overall, Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is one of the best all-inclusive resorts for families in Mexico. I can’t wait to start planning our next trip back!

Friendly Vallarta
We stayed at the Friendly Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta shortly after Puerto Vallarta reopened after the lockdowns. The resort exceeded our expectations in a big way. First, it was right on the beach. Next, our room was sparkling clean and quite spacious. I decided to upgrade to an ocean view room. We were on the 10th floor, with an unobstructed ocean view. Heavenly! The advantage of this hotel is that there aren’t any rooms that don’t face the ocean. I believe the lower floors would have to contend with palm trees in their view.
To the left of the hotel, there is a small, protected cove on the beach. This was where we preferred to swim most days, because sometimes the waves could be a little rough for us. Another huge bonus was that we didn’t get bombarded with people trying to sell a timeshare/vacation club product.
My absolute favorite part of this resort is the small coffee shop in the lobby as part of the all inclusive offerings where you could get specialty coffee drinks and espresso every day (which I definitely did!) My kids loved the pools and the gift shop. The gift shop was refreshing because the prices on souvenirs and necessary items (like conditioner for me) were reasonable.
Ixtapa All Inclusive Resorts for Families
Azul Ixtapa Grand and Azul Ixtapa
Erica from In Search of Salt and Lime
The Azul Ixtapa Grande is our go to resort in Ixtapa. The resort has several restaurants and the culinary experience is much better than other All-inclusive resorts we have tried. You do have to book reservations for some of the restaurants ahead of time. I recommend doing it as soon as you arrive to assure you get the time slot of your choosing. The hotel lounge is a great place for groups or families to hang out after dinner!
My favorite way to relax there is a trip to the Azul Grande Spa to take advantage of their aqua therapy pool. The resort has several large pools. The infinity pool is breathtaking with beautiful views of the ocean. It is a bit chilly but the other pools are perfectly warm. The hotel has a great waitstaff and our drinks are never empty.
If you have smaller children, the Azul Ixtapa is the sister hotel next door. It has a small water park and is more kid friendly for the smaller ones. Both hotels have great kids clubs. We have also had great experiences with the family photo sessions at both hotels. The Azul Grand and Azul Ixtapa both provide a great value and a luxurious experience.

Barcelo Ixtapa
We stayed at the Barceló Ixtapa a few years ago, during a quick December getaway. While the Barceló Ixtapa was a little outdated, it was clean and everything was functional. Our room was spacious, with a living area and a bedroom. We enjoyed our room and given the price we paid, it was quite lovely. We also had a balcony and a partial ocean view (read about it in my Ixtapa guide).
While I wouldn’t say the food was incredible, it was good and there was plenty of variety. They even had gluten free muffins one morning! The ceviche was excellent.
The best part about Barcelo Ixtapa were the pools. There are 3 family pools. One is a children’s pool, complete with a small slide and an umbrella water fall. While the main pool with the bar was a little crowded during our stay, the other pools were not. We enjoyed the different features of each pool.
Although we didn’t try out the Barcy Club (the kid’s club at the resort), our friends’ children went several times. They loved the daily activities and the evening movies. The Barcy Club is open from 9 am – 5 pm.
Overall, this is a great resort for families.

Best Huatulco Resorts for Families
Las Brisas Huatulco
We chose this lovely resort in Huatulco mostly because it had beaches that look like they had some protection and hoped they’d be great swimming beaches for the kids. The resort does have three beaches. The far one was the least populated, furthest from everything (rooms and dining), and was used primarily for getting on the boats for water sports. The middle beach was the most popular and also had the best beach showers (including the feet rinse stations), and had really nice palapas to sit under. The third beach was our personal favorite and it’s the one pictured above. It was in a cove and had some protection from a reef. This beach wasn’t usually busy and was perfect for swimming on all but one day. It was such a lovely beach experience!
The resort itself was older (and was originally a Club Med when it was built around 1988). The rooms were large, even when they had two queen beds. It was clean and decently maintained. This resort has a large Mexican clientele, so mealtimes were a little different than American times, but you were able to get food nearly all of the time.
The only drawback for us, and it’s really minor, was that from the rooms, you walk down to the beach. To return to your room, you have to climb back up. Climbing up involved many stairs and roads up and up and up. By the third day, we were so exhausted from all of the climbing, walking, and swimming (in 90 degree F heat and high humidity), that we started using the hotel transport a bit more often. Thankfully, it’s easy and frequent!
We loved the trip to Huatulco. Both the beach and the kids club were awesome for our kids. Read the full review of Las Brisas Huatulco.
