My husband, children, and I spent a week in Ohio in July. He returned home to Mexico, while the kids and I stayed an additional week. While I hadn’t doubted I was capable, I didn’t know the amazing things that would happen. Here’s what I learned flying solo (and actually flying solo) with kids for a week.

Natalie was an expat living in Queretaro, Mexico for 5 years. She and her family travel as often as possible.
We all use sunscreen when we are spending time outside, whether we are traveling or not. It’s a necessary precaution to keep our child’s skin protected. As parents, we always want to get the best and safest sunscreen for kids that we can find. With all the stuff in the news, which is the best sunscreen for kids? I always worry about sun safety when we spend time in the sunshine. I also worry about which sunscreens are the best and safest for our bodies.
When it’s time to lather on the sunscreen, here are some of the safest and best children’s sun creams you can buy!
Imagine my excitement my husband called me and said, “I booked flights to the USA. We leave in one week.” I was so excited that I almost cried. We weren’t sure if we’d be visiting Ohio this summer or not and we kept putting off planning the trip. Not only did I want to have a lot of family time, I also wanted to do all of the things, including visit the new Franklin Park Conservatory Children’s Garden, located in Columbus, Ohio.
Of course, I couldn’t fit in all of the things I wanted to do (or see all of the people I wanted to see), but I did get meet my friend Julie and her children at the Franklin Park Conservatory. It was a beautiful and sunny day, just perfect for visiting a children’s garden. Was it everything I hoped it would be?
This week is the last week of school in Mexico. It actually ends on July 6 this year. A lot of people don’t even send their kids during the last week. This week, we had the pre-school/kindergarten ceremony with diplomas given on Monday. I put in my calendar that there is a graduation ceremony today after another different event in the morning.
Apparently, as is common, I was mistaken.
For Spring Break, we decided to fly to Cancun, Mexico. My husband originally wanted to go to an all-inclusive resort. I checked the prices and they seemed really high (spoiler alert: many all-inclusive resorts in Cancun end up being reasonably priced due to the high cost of food in the Cancun touristy area). I started trying to figure out an option that was better for the budget AND included seeing Chichen Itza without spending hours upon hours in a bus. We decided to take a road trip Yucatan, which included spending a lot of time in Tulum.
Let’s check out some great Yucatan road trip itineraries!
Staying safe while traveling (or in everyday life) is a subject I take seriously. When we travel, we often travel with our passports. Leaving them locked in a safe while we are enjoying the sights (or the pool) gives me peace of mind. In most of our travels, a safe has been provided by the hotel. However, when there isn’t one in the room, I always wish I’d brought a portable personal travel safe.
So I know I want one, but what is the best travel safe to buy? Let’s get to the top portable travel safe reviews and start comparing!
Congratulations, you’ve taken the plunge and immerse yourself into a new country. Or, you’re thinking of becoming an expatriate. It’s so exciting! It won’t always be all ice cream and tacos, though. There are things to know in order to mentally prepare for and have a great expat experience in your new country.
Natalie and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Tourist Day: Guanajuato Edition
As we passed through the famous tunnels of Guanajuato City, Mexico, I began feeling excited again. I felt with renewed vigor, passing into a beautiful city that I’d never seen. Maybe this visit would be better than I thought!
