Some travel days, I really want to put my best face forward (pun intended). Make up is so much fun. I’m always learning and just trying to look a way that I like. With my renewed interest in all things makeup, I’m going to be traveling with a few more options on our next trip! Let’s check out some of the best travel makeup palette options for face, eyes, and other great products.
Best Travel Makeup Palette 2024
I usually travel carry on only and even so, I can squeeze in some makeup for any special events I have. Even while traveling, we can be stylish if we want! Whether you wear a lot or a little, here are some awesome makeup products that are great while traveling.
Remember to grab a travel skincare set for your carry on, too!

Do you travel with a hair dryer? Check out this guide and find a great hair dryer, too!
I hate getting my bikini area waxed, so I’ve looked into laser hair removal. Did you know there are options for home products? This guide has what you need to know about home laser hair removal.
Best Face Makeup Palette
Tarteist Pro Glow Palette
This palette has upped my makeup game. I use it for blush, highlighter, and a light contour. It’s small enough to fit in my makeup bag for carry on only flying. This palette really does make my face look glowy! I recommend it.
Tarte Deluxe Tarteist Treats Color Collection
This adorable set is entirely travel sized! It comes with six eye shadows (all made with Amazonian clay), plus a small mascara, and small glossy lip paint. I love the colors of this palette and it would be great for those who travel frequently. Click below to check the price from Tarte!
Best Eye Makeup Palette
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Eyeshadow Palette – Modern Renaissance
I got this set from my make up loving friend for Christmas and it’s awesome! It is the eye shadow palette I’ll be traveling with because there’s enough variety to have a simple look or an elegant look for a special occasion. Plus, I love the way the shadows in this palette apply. I even use it for my eyeliner. It remains my favorite!
Best for Fun Colors: BH Cosmetics – Supernova Baked Eye shadow Palette
For those of you who like bright colors, BH Cosmetics will not disappoint. I don’t have this palette yet (I have this one that is a little large for travel), though I do love the one I have. BH Cosmetics makes nice eye shadows and you won’t go wrong purchasing one of their smaller palettes for travel. I enjoy their eye shadows and their bright colors!
BH COSMETICS 19 Color Desert Oasis Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette
I love the look of this palette. Also, I know I like BH Cosmetics shadows, so this is one I’d love to try for traveling. It comes with 5 highlighters and 14 shadows. It has several gorgeous neutrals, as well as a few fun, shimmery colors for special occasions (and it’s perfectly acceptable if that special occasion is “I want to wear this fun color today”).
Primer
The POREfessional Face Primer by Benefit
My friend sent me a sample of this primer and after wearing it once, I had to have it! I love Porefessional Face Primer by Benefit cosmetics. I use it primarily on my nose to cover dark pores and my oh my, I noticed a huge difference! My nose looks so much better with this product. I love, love, love it and recommend it for your problem areas. You can even wear it by itself and I often do. I might dust a bit of powder over it, but it isn’t necessary. I wear it daily now because I love the way it makes my skin look.
Lipstick
Bésame Lipstick Besame Red 1920
Oh, Bésame! How I adore thee! This company is really cool. They’ve collected old make up and recreated the same pigments for modern day women. Each lipstick includes the year it was initially produced. So, if you want to wear the one of the colors that women wore in 1920, this is it! All of their make up is retro. It’s also gluten free and not tested on animals at any level of production. This lipstick does contain beeswax (so not vegan), but they do source responsibly from happy bees. They have other products, including lipsticks, that are vegan. Also, Besame is not available on Amazon or Ebay, so don’t purchase Besame products from those places.
Their lipsticks are really creamy and the color lasts a long time. I’m really happy with with how they feel and the colors! I get a lot of compliments when I wear my Besame lipsticks (I currently wear Besame Red 1920 and Red Hot Red 1959).

Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Matte Lipstick
The color shown is called Bloodmoon and WOW is what I have to say about it. If you love matte lipstick, Lime Crime has something for you. They also have shinier line called plushies, that is just as vibrant.
tarte lippie lingerie matte tint
I use the tarte lipSurgence creme line and I love it. However, it isn’t available anymore. Tarte now offers a line called Lippie Lingerie Matte Tint and it’s still a pencil, which is great for traveling. I’m really happy with all of my tarte lipsticks. My 5 year old daughter also uses mine sometimes and they are really easy for her to apply.
Thank you to Chevonne at Truth in Beauty for her help, her amazing gifts (make up and friendship), and for providing me with some of the images for this post. Check out her YouTube videos and instagram.
Foundation Sticks
Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation
Instead of traveling with a travel size foundation, try a foundation stick! Anastasia Beverly Hills offers a whopping 26 shades of this foundation stick (at the time of publishing). The company says this product can be used as foundation, a tinted moisturizer, or for highlighting and contouring. They have have contouring sticks available. I’m searching for a perfect foundation and also a stick foundation. Some users mentioned that it goes on a little dry. If you have dry skin, you can try a setting spray to help keep the moisture locked in.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick
Bobbi Brown is a well-known make up name. They offer stick foundation in 17 colors. I haven’t tried this, but users report it works well. The company says it can be used for all over coverage or just where you need it. They also recommend their sticks for all skin types, except for very oily skin.
Setting Spray
Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray
This stuff works well on my combination skin (mostly oily). I also usually powder my oily spots prior. It gives a nice finish to my makeup look. It doesn’t dry out my face nor does it make it looks excessively oily. Just fresh and dewy. The mini size spray bottle can go in your carry on or purse, to use as needed!
Dual Powder Foundation by Gabriel Cosmetics
I’m also a fan of powder, when I want a no-fuss, not dewy look. If it’s humid outside, this is what I’ll use. Gabriel powder is fantastic – plus, it’s gluten free! It goes on easily and looks smooth after. I like that I can use this powder as my foundation, which makes it no fuss for me. This powder comes in 5 shades.
NYX Professional Makeup Mineral Finishing Powder
I use this finishing powder by NYX. I have the lighter one (there are only two shades). It’s almost translucent. The NYX powder does finish nicely, but it’s a super dry powder, if that makes sense. I think it’s fine, which lends to the dry feeling. I do like it! It’s a great budget option.
Travel makeup brushes
BH Cosmetic brushes comes in a set of 15, which is awesome for giving you a lot of options. This particular set comes with a nice little case, in addition to the variety. The case has a slot to hold each brush, making it easy to grab for traveling. Or you can always bring just your favorites when you’re on the road!
Best Makeup Case
Waterproof PU Leather Makeup Bag/Cosmetic Case
This amazing PU leather case is actually perfect for travel. The inside is lined with waterproof material, which is helpful for protecting all the makeup. It fits a lot of products, so you can travel with all the things you need.
Best Makeup Travel Bag
Lay-n-Go Cosmo (20″) Cosmetic Bag
The Lay-N-Go Cosmo cosmetic bag is a good option for traveling, since you can spread it all out and see everything. It claims to be organized, but users state it is kind of a jumbled mess when it’s first opened. The advantages are that is lays flat and has a lip so cosmetics don’t go rolling off.
Easy Travel Makeup – What I actually bring
I actually travel really light in regards to my make up. These are the actual items that I travel with:
- 2 eye makeup brushes
- 3 face makeup brushes
- Porefessional primer
- Foundation
- Foundation powder
- Mascara
- Lipstick
- Tarteist Pro Glow Palette (blush, highlighter, and contour in one)
- Eye shadow palette
- Makeup Wipes
Though it seems like a lot, these items all fit into my little travel makeup case and I pop that right into my backpack when I travel. It’s really easy and then I have everything on hand that I use on a regular basis.
Unless, of course, I forget to pack something.
Conclusion
Don’t be afraid to travel with your makeup. It’s best to bring what you wear on a daily basis. If it’s a lot, it’s great to pare it down, especially if you want to travel carry on only. I know when I travel that I’m not going to be wearing a lot of make on most days. I can happily get by with a minimum for many trips. If I know I’ll be going out for something fancy, I will make sure I have enough to be comfortable and have fun.
Ultimately, makeup is all about fun.
What’s your favorite makeup brand? Do you travel with a lot of makeup, a little, or none?
