Natalie was an expat living in Queretaro, Mexico for 5 years. She and her family travel as often as possible.
I love seeing pictures of happy families while they are traveling. It’s inspiring and lovely to see people making memories with their kids, trying new foods, and getting out of their comfort zone. Smiling parents and kids while on picturesque, sandy beaches or some famous, touristy place, are beautiful.
It’s also total crap.
I’m 100% for capturing those perfect moments. In fact, I take hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of photos while on vacation. Occasionally, I pay a photographer to capture some beautiful moments for us, too. I want to be clear about “perfect vacations” and those amazing travel photos involving families. For every perfect moment, there’s an opposite and equal imperfect reaction.
So if your family vacation was more exhausting than relaxing: it’s okay and you are NOT alone.

“My cousin’s child cried during the entire 11 hour flight to Japan,” said Marybeth, when asked about how she conquered the fear of traveling with her baby. “I thought if my cousin can get through that, so can I.”
Marybeth’s comment mirrored my own fears about airplane travel with my kids. What if they meltdown on the airplane? Or what if we bother other passengers? What would I do?
We visited the Las Brisas Huatulco in the month of August. It was incredibly hot and humid. However, heat is what I want when I’m on a beach vacation. Before booking the Las Brisas Resort, I did do quite a bit of review reading for it and other resorts. Ultimately, what cemented my choice to stay there was a map. The beaches for the resort are in a cove, of sorts, and looked quite protected. Read: calm enough for the kids to enjoy properly.
After our Cabo San Lucas trip earlier this year, where the beach hadn’t been what I’d hoped and expected, I was looking for a great beach experience for the family.
Did the beach deliver? What was Las Brisas Resort like for the kids? Did we like it?
The world is large. There are so many places to see and things to do. Searching for “things to do in” the city you’re about to visit is going to present you with so many search results and options of things YOU SHOULD NOT MISS during your possibly once in a lifetime trip. Travel FOMO (or fear of missing out) is a real thing and manifests in different ways.
What will happen if you don’t go to the Eiffel Tower in Paris? Or the Statue of Liberty in NYC? What if you don’t see Chichen Itza while visiting Cancun, Mexico?
Periods aren’t going to stop just because you’re planning to travel. In fact, they do tend to come at the most inconvenient time. Instead of taking up valuable space in your luggage with a lot of disposable products, why not travel with reusable menstrual pads or cloth panty liners?
Despite the best planning, some days during your travels, you’ll run into rain. Maybe you’ll seek the rain. Either way, it’s best to find an easy way to stay as dry as possible. A poncho will cover you and often will be large enough to also cover your backpack. Whether you are looking for the best rain poncho for travel or the best backpacking poncho, let’s look at the options!
